Federal chain – operating since 2011

The name "all—season tires" sounds tempting: one set - and for the whole year. Economy, convenience, no fuss with changing tires. But in practice, everything is not so clear.

Disadvantages that directly affect safety:
— In summer, all-season tires are inferior to real summer tires on dry asphalt. The braking distance can be up to 10 meters longer, which is a critical difference in an emergency situation.
— In winter, the situation is even more complicated: on snow and ice, such tires noticeably lose to winter models in handling and braking efficiency. This is confirmed by independent tests.
— The compromise rubber compound does not withstand extreme temperatures — neither severe frosts nor heat.

But there are also advantages.
All-season tires can perform well.:

— on light off-road due to a more aggressive tread;
— in the off-season, when you can wait out the rush in tire shops without haste;
— in urban mode with a calm driving style.

Who will they suit?
Experts recommend using all-season tires all year round only in regions with mild winters (at least -5 °C) and temperate summers. In Russia, this is:

— Southern Federal District;
— certain districts of the North Caucasus Federal District;
— the western part of the Central Federal District.

It is important to understand that the all—season season is always a compromise. It is convenient, but requires a sober assessment of the climate, operating conditions and your own driving style.
