Chery surprised car enthusiasts by presenting the affordable hybrid sedan Fulwin A8 with... a transparent body! At a presentation for the Chinese press, the car’s exterior panels were made from transparent plastic to clearly show what the "new Chinese cars" are made of and how extensively high-strength steels are used in the structure. This unusual approach allows viewers to see the complexity and quality of the engineering under the hood and within the car’s frame.
The Fulwin A8 is an updated version of the model previously known to us as the Amulet, but now features a modern design and an interior almost identical to the Arrizo 8. In size, the sedan is comparable to the Toyota Camry (length 4790 mm, wheelbase 2790 mm), making it an attractive option in the mid-size car segment.
Under the hood is a hybrid setup: a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter engine producing 102 hp and an electric motor with 204 hp, delivering a combined 306 hp and 435 Nm of torque! The top speed is 180 km/h, and the transmission is a single-speed hybrid (DHT) with front-wheel drive.
Interestingly, the new version features a smaller battery (9.5 kWh), reducing the electric-only range to 70 km, but the overall range was barely affected — 1310 km compared to the previous 1400 km. Prices for the new versions in China start at 79,900 yuan (~880,000 rubles), making the Fulwin A8 a very attractive hybrid in its class.
